The Top 7 Toronto Attractions

05.22.2017 | Lifestyle

Living in Toronto certainly has its perks. The city is full of vibrant neighbourhoods, superb restaurants, and plenty of attractions. If you’re looking for entertainment, you’ve come to the right place.

Whether you’re new to the city, are thinking about moving here, or already call Toronto home, here are the top 7 Toronto attractions you should see:

7. Toronto Island

Even when it feels like you’re in the heart of the concrete jungle, you’re only one ferry ride away from the majesty of nature. Toronto Island sits just off the coast of Lake Ontario, and features trails, beaches, and even a theme park. It’s a place to find a comforting break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

6. St. Lawrence Market

You can find one of the best shopping experiences the city has to offer right in the heart of Old Toronto: St. Lawrence Market. Here, you’re just as likely to find giddy tourists chowing down on bagels as you are to find locals picking up their weekly groceries. It’s the perfect blend of touristy fun and everyday routine – a real slice of Toronto life.

5. Royal Ontario Museum

The largest museum in Canada, and one of the largest in North America, the Royal Ontario Museum (known as the ROM) contains artifacts from across the globe – including an impressive collection of dinosaur bones. The most stunning part of this building has to be The Crystal, designed by world-renowned architect Daniel Libeskind. An intricate combination of glass and aluminum, even the entrance is hard to ignore.

4. Kensington Market

Kensington Market is a bohemian paradise, filled with amazing butchers, cheese mongers, vintage clothing stores, hidden bars, and some of Toronto’s finest food options. Take a stroll during one of their “Pedestrian Sunday” events, and enjoy some of the city’s best people-watching – complemented with either warm Belgian frites or cool Mexican paletas (ice pops).

3. Rogers Centre

When you live in Toronto, experiencing the city isn’t the same if you haven’t visited the Rogers Centre (lovingly still referred to as the “SkyDome”). Cheer on the Toronto Blue Jays from the rafters of this amazing stadium space. Visit on a warm summer day, and bask in the sun of the wide-open dome (thanks to the retractable roof).

2. Distillery District

One of the most compelling aspects of Toronto is the recent emphasis on historical preservation combined with future-forward developments. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the Distillery District. Designated as a National Historic Site in 1988, the Gooderham and Worst Distillery was founded in 1832 and has found a new life as a tourist destination. Full of quirky shops, espresso bars, and beer halls, this area is a charming reminder of Toronto’s past, as well as an exciting sign of things to come.

1. CN Tower

Of course, spending time in Toronto would be nothing without paying a visit to one of the city’s most iconic architectural wonders. The CN Tower is not just a helpful way to orient yourself when you’re in the city, you can also head right to the top! Standing an impressive 457 metres off the ground, you can ride up the elevator and peer down at the world below, and even enjoy a meal from the rotating restaurant just one floor above. It’s Toronto from a whole new perspective, and it’s an essential place to go for every visitor and resident of the city.
